Off grid camp in the middle of a forestry block

    About this backyard

An off-grid camp nestled deep within a dense pine plantation provides a striking balance of seclusion and comfort. House rules include common sense and courtesy, We are not interested in religion , conspiracy theories (flat earthers/chem trails/anti vaxxers/didn't go to the moon etc) and we eat meat on a daily basis. We trap and kill opposums, wild cats, stoats etc - anything that harms our native flora and fauna. No objections of course to gay folk, vegetarians, plant based diets etc. Dee maintains a food garden and we have fruit trees just starting to bear fruit. Rules - use common sense, be kind and ask questions. 🌲 The Setting & Atmosphere We are retired, Green Party voting , down to earth New Zealanders, with no pretence. The camp is situated inside a large clearing. Surrounded on all sides by rows of maturing pine trees with some native bush, the site is isolated from traffic noise and city lights. Birdlife, including Tui, Weka, Piwakawaka, Ruru, Quail and occasionally Kereru can be seen and/or heard depending on the time of the year. Access is via a well-maintained gravel logging road, requiring careful driving but accessible to standard vehicles. The site contains two caravans, a small cabin and three large containers used for storage. 🔋 Sustainable Infrastructure Despite having no public mains connection, the camp relies on modern, eco-friendly systems to keep things running smoothly: • Power: A solar array paired with a battery storage bank supplies silent electricity for lighting and refrigeration. • Water: Fresh water is harvested from a nearby forest stream, then ran through a sediment tank, all our drinking water is boiled. • Hot Water: is wood fired to ensure that hot water is available without drawing electrical power. 🚿 Facilities The shower/toilet block contains a hot-water shower, a composting toilet with a grey-water wetland system, and a small vanity sink with a mirror. Communal Kitchen & Hub A large, covered shelter featuring multi-burner gas stoves, food prep benches, a communal fridge, and basic cookware. A rustic wood-fired Rocket Stove Oven and an outdoor fire hearth is often the social focal point. Outdoor fires may be restricted at certain times of the year. Waste Management - recycling and compost stations prevent any impact on the surrounding wildlife and forest floor.. 🏕️ Accommodation Layout The camp accommodates a variety of styles. • $30 per night/Cabin : One cabin is available with sleeping for up to two, or maybe three at a pinch It features a comfortable bed and a diesel heater for cold forest nights. BYO sleeping bags - no linen supplied. •Vehicle & Campervan Sites (a Koha thanks): Gravel-packed clearings designed for roof-top tents, campervans, or 4WD rigs. Some leveling may be necessary as the site is sloping - we have heavy timbers for levelling purposes. Koha is a voluntary gift: give what feels right.
