About this backyard
I live on a lifestyle block, in the foothills of the Waitakere Ranges, West Auckland. So it's not really a garden, but more a farm experience where visitors can feed friendly sheep and hens. There are fruit trees, veg garden, and a pond. I'm into permaculture and recycling so the place definitely doesn't look pristine. There are a number of spots to choose from for camping. During summer/fine weather, vehicles can drive off road. I am only 3km from Swanson railway station, where suburban trains run regularly to Britomart, in Auckland CBD, taking 50 minutes. The setting is ideal for people with a car, van, bike or bicycle, or who like walking. We are 12km from the nearest surf beach, and less than 5km from a number of lovely forest walks in the Waitakere ranges. Facilities are very basic. We drink rainwater. We also have town supply water available from taps in 3 locations. There is a shed with 240volt power for charging your phone, lights, jug etc. We have a composting toilet (In line with my concern for the environment, while most Auckland residents have their poos pumped to the harbours, I have chosen composting toilets instead).
